Carrot Cake Protein Smoothie
Makes 1 serving

INGREDIENTS
80 g Carrot (Grated first, or a small blender leaves chunks.)
1 medium, about 130 g Orange (Peeled weight.)
1 scoop, about 30 g Whey protein isolate (Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.)
250 ml Skimmed milk
40 g Rolled oats (Dry weight.)
15 g Walnuts
15 g Raisins
Half a teaspoon Ground cinnamon
A small piece, grated Fresh ginger

METHOD
1. Blend the oats and walnuts dry for ten seconds to break them down.
2. Add the milk, whey, grated carrot, ginger and cinnamon and blend for a full minute. Carrot takes longer than fruit to go smooth.
3. Peel the orange, add it with the raisins and blend for another thirty seconds. Strain it through a sieve if you want it silky; unstrained is fine and has more in it.

Contains gluten cereals, milk and tree nuts.
Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.
Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.

RECIPE NOTES
Over 500 kcal and every bit of it is a breakfast: oats, nuts, fruit, milk and whey. It is meant to be the whole meal, drunk slowly.
Ready-grated carrot from a bag is fine. Carrot juice is a different thing and loses the pulp that makes this thick.
