Hot Cocoa with Whey
Makes 1 serving

INGREDIENTS
1 scoop, about 30 g Whey protein isolate (Chocolate or vanilla. Whisked in off the heat, or it goes stringy. Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.)
3 tsp, about 9 g Cocoa powder
250 ml Skimmed milk
To taste Granulated sweetener
A tiny pinch Salt

METHOD
1. Mix the cocoa and salt with two tablespoons of the cold milk in the mug to make a smooth paste.
2. Heat the rest of the milk in a small pan until steaming but not boiling, then take it off the heat and leave it thirty seconds.
3. Pour a little hot milk onto the paste and stir, add the whey and whisk hard with a small whisk or a fork until smooth, then top up with the remaining milk and add sweetener to taste.

Contains milk.
Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.

RECIPE NOTES
Whey curdles above about 70°C. Milk that has been off the boil for half a minute is cool enough, and whisking rather than stirring keeps it smooth.
Skimmed milk and cocoa on their own are a modest snack. The whey turns the mug into something with the protein of a small meal.
