Peanut Butter Protein Bars Make peanut butter protein bars, from the first ingredient to the finished dish. INGREDIENTS | Makes 6 servings 100 g Rolled oats (Dry weight.) 2 scoops, about 60 g Whey protein isolate (Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.) 70 g (a generous 4 tbsp) Peanut butter (The kind that is peanuts and salt. Sweetened spreads carry more carbohydrate.) 3 tsp, about 21 g Honey 60 ml Skimmed milk 4 squares, about 20 g Dark chocolate, 85% A pinch Salt Ingredient notes on the recipe page. METHOD 1. Line a 450 g loaf tin with baking paper, leaving some hanging over the sides to lift the slab out later. 2. Warm the peanut butter and honey together in a pan over a low heat until loose, then take it off the heat and stir in the milk. 3. Mix the oats, whey and salt in a bowl, pour in the peanut butter mixture and stir until everything is coated and there is no dry powder left. 4. Press the mix into the tin firmly with the back of a spoon. Melt the chocolate in short bursts in the microwave and spread it over the top. 5. Chill for two hours until solid, lift out and cut into six bars. Contains gluten cereals, milk, peanuts and soya. Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here. Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub. Flagged for the soya lecithin most bars use. Most also say they may contain milk and nuts. Check ingredient packaging for allergen information.
