Ingredients
- Whey protein isolate1 scoop, about 30 g
Vanilla or unflavoured. Chocolate turns it into a mocha, which is a different recipe on this site. Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.
- Espresso2 shots, about 60 g
Cooled for a few minutes. Hot espresso on whey makes it clump.
- Skimmed milk200 ml
- IceA large handful
- Granulated sweetenerTo taste
Method
Pull the espresso and leave it to cool for five minutes while you get the rest ready.
Put the ice in a shaker or jar, pour over the milk, then the coffee, then the whey and sweetener.
Shake hard for twenty seconds until frothy. Pour over fresh ice if you want it colder.
Worth knowing
- Shaken rather than blended is deliberate. The ice in the shaker chills it without watering it down as much, and a blender turns whey and coffee into a head of foam.
- Skimmed milk is a fifth of the protein here. With water instead it is a thinner drink and the figure drops accordingly.
