Allergens

  • Milk
  • Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.

Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.

Ingredients

  • Whey protein isolate1 scoop, about 30 g

Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.

  • Cherries100 g

Frozen and pitted. Pitting fresh cherries for a shake is a job nobody wants. Stoned weight.

  • Cocoa powder2 tsp, about 6 g
  • Skimmed milk200 ml

Cooking this one?

Add it to your shopping list and keep looking. The list adds the quantities up across everything you pick.

Method

  1. Pour the milk into the blender, add the cherries, cocoa and whey.

  2. Blend for thirty seconds until smooth and dark pink. Add ice and blend again if the cherries were not frozen.

  3. Drink straight away.

Worth knowing

  • Cherries are sweeter than berries and give this a good deal of its carbohydrate. Raspberries in their place make a sharper, lower shake.
  • Chocolate whey doubles the cocoa and makes it taste like a milkshake. Unflavoured whey with the cocoa listed is the more grown-up version and the one the figures describe.
