How the numbers are made
How are the calories and macros worked out?
Every ingredient is given as a gram weight, and the calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate are the sum over those weights using standard food composition values, divided by the number of servings. Nothing is estimated from a photo or a portion size. Where a recipe came with figures that did not reconcile, the page says so and shows both.
Are the figures per serving or for the whole recipe?
Per serving. A recipe that makes four gives the numbers for one of the four, and says how many it makes under the title.
Are meat and fish weighed raw or cooked?
Raw, unless the ingredient line says otherwise. Cooking drives off water, so 200 g of raw chicken breast is about 150 g cooked with the same protein in it. Weighing after cooking and using the raw figure is the most common way a total comes out wrong, which is why every meat and fish line says which it is.
What do the allergen flags mean?
They are the fourteen allergens UK food labelling requires to be declared, and a recipe is flagged when an ingredient as listed contains one. The flags come from the ingredient, not the brand, so they do not cover may-contain warnings. A recipe with no flags has none of the fourteen in its ingredient list as written, which is not the same as being safe for a particular person. Check the packet.
Can I hide recipes containing something I avoid?
Yes. The filter panel on every recipes page has a row of allergen chips. Each one hides every recipe containing that allergen, and the count on the chip is how many remain. Any number can be on at once, and the result is a page you can bookmark or send.
Can I turn recipes into a shopping list?
Tick any number of recipes and the site adds their ingredients up into one list, grams to grams and millilitres to millilitres, without inventing conversions. Anything that cannot be added, like a squeeze of lemon, is listed as words next to the recipe that wanted it.

More on the way. Macros are calculated from the listed weights using standard food composition values and will shift with your own brands and measuring.
