Allergens
- Gluten
- Milk
- Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.
- Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.
Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.
Ingredients
- Rolled oats40 g
Dry weight.
- Cocoa powder2 tsp (6 g)
- Whey protein isolate1 scoop, about 30 g
Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.
- Skimmed milk150 ml
- Greek yogurt, 0% fat50 g
- Orange1 medium, segmented (130 g)
Peeled weight.
- Granulated sweetenerTo taste, if needed
Method
Whisk the cocoa and whey into the milk and yogurt in a jar with a fork until smooth. Grate a little of the orange zest in.
Stir in the oats, put the lid on and leave in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, taste it, add sweetener only if it needs it, and lay the orange segments on top.
Worth knowing
- Cocoa and whey both clump if the oats go in first. Whisk them into the liquid until smooth, then add the oats.
- Cocoa powder is bitter and the whey is the only sweetness unless it is a flavoured one. Taste before adding sweetener, not after.
