Allergens

  • Gluten
  • Milk
  • Peanuts
  • Most granola contains nuts. This row assumes a plain oat granola; add the nut yourself if the box has them.

Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.

Ingredients

  • Cottage cheese200 g
  • Banana1 medium, about 100 g

Peeled weight. A medium banana is about 100 g without the skin.

  • Peanut butter1 heaped tbsp (20 g)

The kind that is peanuts and salt. Sweetened spreads carry more carbohydrate.

  • Cocoa powder1 tsp (3 g)
  • Granola30 g

Method

  1. Blend the cottage cheese and cocoa with a stick blender for thirty seconds until the curds vanish and it looks like a chocolate mousse. Skip this and eat it as curds if you prefer; the numbers are the same.

  2. Slice the banana over the top.

  3. Warm the peanut butter for ten seconds in the microwave so it pours, drizzle it over and scatter the granola last.

Worth knowing

  • Over 500 kcal, and the two things doing it are the peanut butter at 6 kcal a gram and the granola at 4.5. Halve both and the bowl lands near 430 with the protein barely changed.
  • Blended cottage cheese is a trick worth knowing. It has the protein of Greek yogurt with a fat content that lets it whip, and nobody who has eaten it blended has asked for the curds back.
