Allergens

  • Gluten
  • Milk
  • Soya
  • Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.
  • Flagged for the soya lecithin most bars use. Most also say they may contain milk and nuts.
  • Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.

Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.

Cooking this one?

Add it to your shopping list and keep looking. The list adds the quantities up across everything you pick.

Method

  1. Simmer the oats in the milk with the salt and vanilla for three minutes.

  2. Add the cherries and cook for two minutes more, so they soften and bleed into the oats.

  3. Off the heat, stir in the whey. Chop the chocolate and scatter it over so it melts in streaks rather than disappearing.

Worth knowing

  • Frozen cherries work out of season and cost a third of fresh. Add them from frozen and give the pan an extra minute.
  • Two squares of chocolate is 10 g. Chopped and scattered rather than stirred through, it stays in pockets you can taste.
