Allergens
- Gluten
- Milk
- Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.
- Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.
Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.
Ingredients
- Chia seeds15 g
- Rolled oats30 g
Dry weight.
- Whey protein isolate1 scoop, about 30 g
Values for an unflavoured or lightly flavoured isolate. A concentrate or a blend carries more fat and carbohydrate at the same scoop.
- Skimmed milk200 ml
- Strawberries100 g, sliced
- Vanilla extractA few drops
Method
Whisk the whey and vanilla into the milk in a jar until smooth.
Stir in the chia and oats, wait ten minutes, and stir again.
Lid on, fridge overnight. Strawberries on top in the morning.
Worth knowing
- The whey is dissolved in the milk overnight rather than stirred into cooked oats. It sets the pot thicker, so this takes more milk than 30 g of oats alone would.
- Chia is 450 kcal per 100 g and mostly fat. Fifteen grams is enough to set a pot this size.
