Allergens

  • Gluten
  • Milk
  • Peanuts
  • Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.
  • Most whey powders contain soya lecithin, which counts as soya. Check the tub.

Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.

The kind that is peanuts and salt. Sweetened spreads carry more carbohydrate.

Add it to your shopping list and keep looking. The list adds the quantities up across everything you pick.

Method

  1. Simmer the oats in the water with the salt for four minutes, stirring now and then.

  2. Mash half the banana with a fork and stir it in for the last minute, so it cooks into the oats.

  3. Off the heat, stir in the whey and the peanut butter until smooth. Add a splash of water if it is too stiff to stir.

  4. Slice the other half of the banana over the top and dust with cinnamon.

Worth knowing

  • Half the banana mashed in is what sweetens the bowl, so nothing else is added. All of it sliced on top instead and the porridge underneath eats a lot plainer.
  • A level tablespoon of peanut butter is 15 g. Heaped is nearer 25 g and another 60 kcal.
