Allergens
- Gluten
- Milk
- Oats count as a gluten cereal under UK labelling and ordinary oats are milled alongside wheat. Certified gluten-free oats are a separate ingredient here.
Flags follow UK labelling rules and come from the ingredients as listed, not from any particular brand. Check the packet before cooking for somebody with an allergy.
Ingredients
- Quark200 g
- Blueberries100 g
- Rolled oats40 g
Toasted dry in a pan until they smell nutty. Raw they are dusty and stick to your teeth. Dry weight.
- Lemon zestZest of half a lemon
- Honey1 tsp (7 g)
Method
Tip the oats into a dry frying pan over medium heat and toast for four to five minutes, stirring often, until they turn a shade darker and smell of digestive biscuits. Cool on a plate.
Beat the lemon zest and honey into the quark with a fork until smooth.
Spoon it into a bowl, add the blueberries and scatter the cooled oats on top.
Worth knowing
- Toasting the oats is the whole recipe. It takes five minutes and turns 40 g of porridge oats into something close to granola, with none of the oil or syrup that makes the boxed kind 4.5 kcal a gram.
- Frozen blueberries work if you let them thaw in the bowl for ten minutes first. They bleed purple into the quark, which looks worse and tastes the same.
